How the Calculation Works
The calculator uses a standard weighted-average model: it solves for the number of new reviews, at your expected new-review average, that would pull your overall bubble rating up to your target — given how many reviews your listing already has. More existing reviews means each new review moves the average less, so the same rating jump takes more reviews on an established listing than on a newer one.
Bubble Rating vs. Popularity Ranking
Your bubble rating and your search ranking aren't the same thing. Tripadvisor's Popularity Ranking factors in review quality (your bubble rating), quantity, and recency together — a listing with a strong but stale review history can lose ground to a competitor with a smaller, more recent, more active one. This calculator estimates the rating side of that equation.
How Many Positive Reviews Offset a 1-Bubble Review?
There's no fixed number — it depends entirely on how many reviews your listing already has. A single 1-bubble review pulls the average of a 10-review listing far more than it pulls a 1,000-review listing.
