Social Share Preview Generator

See exactly how a link to your page looks when someone shares it on Facebook, LinkedIn, or X — before they post it.

When a link gets shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, or X, the platform doesn't just show the raw URL — it builds a preview card from a specific set of meta tags in your page's <head>: Open Graph tags for Facebook and LinkedIn, and Twitter Card tags for X. If those tags are missing or wrong, the platform falls back to guessing, which usually means an unrelated image, a truncated title, or no preview at all.

This tool is for anyone about to share a link — a new service page, a blog post, a landing page for a promotion — who wants to see what that link will actually look like before posting it, rather than finding out after a client or customer already saw a broken preview. Enter the page URL, title, description, and image, and it renders a live preview alongside the exact meta tags to paste into your page.

The preview itself doesn't affect search rankings, but it directly affects whether someone stops scrolling and clicks. A card with a relevant image and a clear description reads as more trustworthy than a blank gray box or a generic site icon, and that difference shows up in click-through rate anywhere the link gets shared socially.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the full URL of the page you're sharing in the "Page URL" field.
  2. Enter the title you want to appear in the preview — this can match your page's <title> tag or differ slightly.
  3. Enter a short description; a sentence or two is enough, since longer text gets cut off in the preview.
  4. Enter the URL of the image you want to display — 1200×630px works best across platforms.
  5. Compare the Facebook/LinkedIn preview and the X preview side by side.
  6. Click "Copy tags" and paste the generated meta tags into the <head> of the page.

A note for JavaScript-rendered pages

Social platforms' link-scraping bots generally don't execute JavaScript the way a browser does — they read the raw HTML returned by your server. If a site builds its pages client-side and injects meta tags after the page loads, the scraper can miss them entirely and fall back to defaults. Making sure Open Graph and Twitter Card tags are present in the server-rendered or pre-rendered HTML — not added only after the page finishes loading in the browser — is what actually makes the preview show up correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my link preview show the wrong image or an old title?
Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms cache the Open Graph data the first time a URL is shared, sometimes for weeks. If you've updated your tags since the last share, use each platform's own debugging tool (Facebook's Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn's Post Inspector) to force a re-scrape — updating the tags on your site alone won't refresh an already-cached preview.
What's the difference between Open Graph tags and Twitter Card tags?
Open Graph (og:title, og:description, og:image) is the standard Facebook, LinkedIn, and most other platforms read. X/Twitter has its own separate tag set (twitter:card, twitter:title, etc.) — but if Twitter tags are missing, X falls back to reading the Open Graph tags instead, so adding both is the safest approach.
What size should the preview image be?
1200×630px is the safe standard that displays well across Facebook, LinkedIn, and X without awkward cropping. Keep the file size reasonable (under ~1MB) so it loads quickly when the platform fetches it, and keep essential text or faces away from the edges in case a platform crops it slightly differently.
Do these tags affect SEO rankings?
Not directly — Open Graph and Twitter Card tags don't influence Google's ranking algorithm. What they do influence is click-through rate when a link is shared on social media, which indirectly matters: a compelling preview gets more clicks, which can mean more traffic and more chances to earn links and mentions.
