Build an Avvo profile that earns the client, not just the click.

The Avvo Rating, your client reviews, and your peer endorsements are three separate signals — and prospective clients check all three before they call. We help you strengthen each one legitimately, without ever risking your bar standing.

Avvo is different from most review platforms because its headline number isn’t built from client feedback at all. The Avvo Rating is a proprietary score from 1.0 to 10.0 calculated from an attorney’s experience, education, credentials, disciplinary and bar history, professional achievements, and publications. It moves when your credentials and profile completeness change — not when you collect more reviews.

Client reviews and peer endorsements sit alongside the Rating as their own, separate signals. A prospective client comparing attorneys on Avvo typically looks at all three together: the algorithmic Rating, what past clients actually said, and whether other lawyers vouch for the attorney’s skill. Avvo reputation management means strengthening all three the right way — you cannot buy a higher Avvo Rating with reviews, because the Rating simply isn’t built from them.

Who this matters most for

Avvo matters most for attorneys and law firms competing for consumer-facing legal work — personal injury, family law, criminal defense, immigration, and any practice area where a prospective client searches for and compares lawyers before calling.

Why the Avvo Rating behaves differently from a star rating

The Avvo Rating is calculated from information Avvo has about an attorney: years in practice, education, industry recognition, publications and speaking engagements, professional achievements, and disciplinary or bar history. It is algorithmic and largely credential-driven, which is exactly why two attorneys with identical five-star review averages can carry very different Avvo Ratings.

That is the single most important thing to understand about Avvo: the Rating and the reviews are not the same lever. Buying reviews, or even collecting a flood of genuine five-star reviews, does not move the Rating itself. What moves it is completing and keeping current the profile information the algorithm actually reads — verified experience, education, honors, publications, and a clean bar record. Reviews and peer endorsements build trust on top of that Rating; they don’t substitute for it.

Attorneys also face a constraint no other platform on this list carries: responding to a review can create a bar-ethics problem if the response discloses confidential client information, even to correct the record. A negative review that references case details can’t simply be rebutted with more case details — the response has to stay within what confidentiality rules allow, which is a very different discipline than the review-response coaching most businesses need.

What actually moves the Avvo Rating

Experience — years in practice, case types handled, and the depth of a verified professional history.
Education and credentials — law school, bar admissions, and any specialized certifications on file.
Professional achievements — honors, board memberships, speaking engagements, and published legal writing.
Disciplinary and bar history — a clean record supports the score; disclosed disciplinary action weighs against it.
Profile completeness — an attorney who claims and fully fills out their Avvo profile gives the algorithm far more to score than one who never touches it.
Client reviews and peer endorsements — tracked and displayed separately from the Rating, but part of the overall trust picture a prospective client sees.

Which businesses should prioritize Avvo

Personal injury and family law attorneys, where Avvo is a common first stop for consumers comparing lawyers
Solo practitioners and small firms whose Avvo profile is one of the few places prospective clients can independently vet them
Attorneys with a strong track record but a Rating that doesn’t reflect it because the profile was never completed
Firms that have real client reviews scattered across Google but a thin, unclaimed, or outdated Avvo presence
Any attorney who needs a bar-compliant way to respond to a negative review without risking a confidentiality violation
